this log covers our unplanned trip to moab ā where we slept, what we ate, what we explored, and the moments that stuck.

not every trip has to be meticulously planned. sometimes you just go for it.

## day 1 ā loaded up the wagon and hit the road
that was probably the quickest we have ever prepped for a five-day trip.
i knew we were probably forgetting some stuff.
oh well.
our first driving break and stopping point for the day ā jack's creek campground

*had no idea this place would be so special ā we just needed a break from drivingā¦*

*never been a sunrise kinda guy, butā¦ buh-roā¦ i'll admit itā¦ it was beautifulā¦*
*noctis laid quietly observing the waterfowlā¦ probably thinking about killing themā¦*
*not a bad first day ā and an even better morning.*

## day 2 ā somewhere in moab trying to grill carne asada in the wind
*we got to moab in the afternoon and found a place to chill for the eveningā¦*
*we had the place to ourselves ā until the rvs and dirt bikes poured inā¦*
*no problem for the yotaā¦ we moved to a more secluded areaā¦*
*definitely not an excuse to drive the truckā¦*
*we found a nice quiet spot and grilled carne asada in the windā¦*
*no rice or beans ā still so goodā¦*
*we packed up bright and early and made our way to swingarm cityā¦*

## day 3 ā noctis meets new friends then gets his ass kicked in swingarm city
*noctis made lots of new friendsā¦ then got his ass kicked.*
*i guess some dogs don't appreciate having their crotch sniffedā¦*
*lots of yotas and cool people, but there wasn't much for us to do here.*
*so we packed up and bounced in the morningā¦*
*a dirt bike would have been fun. cool place though.*

## day 4 ā shafer trail & la sal
one of the guys at swingarm told us to do shafer trail, so we took his word for it.
honestly i thought it sounded kinda wackā¦ but with no itinerary or plan, why not?
### a casual afternoon drive up shafer trail
*just a laid-back drive up shafer trail, listening to the procharger whineā¦*
*it's a trip looking down as you climb upā¦*
*sometimes you gotta do things that sound boringā¦*
*the mormons were wild calling this the promised landā¦*
*we had a quick lunch at the top, then headed toward our next locationā¦*
*we just needed to figure out where that would be.*

### wine, stars, and a campfire in la sal
*we had no clue where we were going to stay for the night ā just wingin' itā¦*
*that's not typically how we roll. we like schedules, itinerary, controlā¦*
*there were trails everywhere, so we picked one and found a cool spotā¦*
*this was the best night of the trip. we both just wanted to chill and have a fireā¦*
*we sat in the stargazers and sipped on wine ā you admitted i was right about these chairsā¦*
*i got tipsy from one glass. that's how it should be.*

## day 5 ā a casual stroll and one last night in the taco
*we woke up to the birds chirpingā¦*
*we didn't rush. sat in our chairs and enjoyed the sunriseā¦*
*we took our time and decided to explore a little more on foot.*

*nothing like breathing fresh air and sippin' coffee in the morningā¦*
*good call on those poncho-style wubbies you foundā¦ cozyā¦*
*and those beef franksā¦ exquisite! the fridge was running lowā¦*
*we decided to hike around for a bit before committing to the drive back.*

### one last night in the taco and a smoked buhbaā¦
*last night of the trip. we were all excited to get home ā especially noctisā¦*
*he still wanted to play frisbeeā¦ but he needed restā¦*
*the universe blessed us with one last sunset while we ate dinnerā¦*
*noctis slept pretty much the whole way homeā¦*
*that was fun.*
